The gossip is that Fred Péneau, partner with chef Inaki Aizpitarte on the buzzing avenue Parmentier restaurant Le Châteaubriand is working on an ambitious hotel project with architect Rem Koolhaas (OMA). The project is still in development, but if all goes to plan, an entirely new, 6,000m2, 80-room hotel on the banks of the Seine will open in 2012 or 2013, and will feature a pool, a restaurant, a bar, a club and gardens. I don’t think so… Fred Peneau described it to me as Seine side, and a new hotel build on an empty terrain. I was wondering if it wasn’t Ile Seguin… What’s the Canal St Martin project?

quai de seine- la vilette? Can’t think of much elsewhere where there’d be that much space…Ile Seguin’s too far out for it to work..I heard a rumour awhile back about a “Dutch company” designing a hotel for next year on the Canal…

Are you sure they weren’t pitching together for the Samaritaine site? The size of the development, location and timing seem to add up.
