FRIDA KAHLO / DIEGO RIVIERA AT L'ORANGERIE

 In > art culture design

Opening to the public at last is this exhibition devoted to the legendary Mexican artist duo, Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo. Originally prepared for the Year of Mexico in France back in 2011, the exhibition, and indeed the entire cultural program, was cancelled following a diplomatic spat between Mexico and Sarkozy over the Florence Cassez affair. In collaboration with the Museo Dolores Olmedo in Mexico, the exhibition presents masterpieces by Kahlo – who has not been exhibited in Paris for over 15 years – including the very famous La Columna rota (The Broken Column), 1944. Presenting the couple’s art side by side within the intimate and lovely Musée de l’Orangerie in the Tuileries, the exhibition demonstrates the deep-rooted attachment they shared for their country: a cycle of life and death, revolution and religion, realism and mysticism, workers and peasants.
Until 13 Jan 2014. Open daily, 9am–6pm . 10€/ 7.50€.
