Hedi Slimane 'California Dreamin'

 In > art culture design

Hedi Slimane, now a US resident, is curating an exhibition ‘California Dreamin: Myths & Legends of Los Angeles’ at Galerie Almine Rech’s Paris space next year. The show will include works from LA art stars like Ed Ruscha, Chris Burden, John Baldessari or Dennis Hopper, aswell as Jim Shaw, Mike Kelley and Raymond Pettibon. A new book of photographs ‘Anthology of a Decade’ (Ringier) will be released during the same period, 1 Mar. The selection of 175 color photographs traverse the music scene, the New York art scene, street fashion and haute couture. The volume records Slimane’s early years in the fashion industry, before, during and after his tenures at Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior and lays bare Slimane’s inspirations for the androgynous, rock look he invented, evidencing his attention to both youth culture and more historical groundings in photography.
26 Feb-26 March 2011. Tue-Sat, 11am-7pm. Galerie Almine Rech, 19 rue de Saintonge, 3rd. www.galeriealminerech.com/
