Hotel Ermitage, St Tropez
The inimitable, ubiquitous André has expanded his empire to the Côte d’Azur, with a sun-drenched, pétanque-playing cousin to Paris’ wonderful little Hotel Amour, the Ermitage Hotel. The low-key, 27-room hotel is scattered with unique vintage and designer furniture, including rare pieces by Mathieu Matégot, Jean Prouvé and Ettore Sottsass (all personally selected by André), and with a strong emphasis on late 1950’s design. Original prints by photographer Irina Ionesco hang alongside more contemporary (yet equally edgy) photographers such as as Terry Richardson. The erotica theme sets the mood for a hotel boasting telephone and TV free rooms, as well as black laquered corridors with leopard print carpet! As with the Hôtel Amour, each room is unique and has been given its final touches by André’s friends, including artists and designers like Marc Newson, Jean Pigozzi, M/M, Christian Louboutin, Paul and Chloe Sevigny; there’s even a spécial ‘Purple’ room by bad-boy Olivier Zahm. The ground-floor Belvedere suite is fully equipped with its own bar, and Snoop Dogg apparently had a ball there this summer. Located right at the entry to St Tropez, a 5 minute walk to the beach, or to the Senequier for coffee and brioche, the hotel is a good time machine; whether round the piano and fireplace in winter, or looking over the garden to the bay from the back terrace, with a glass of champagne in hand, in summer. Thanks Chichi for the sneak preview.
