JR AT THE PANTHEON
Opening to the public today is the installation Au Panthéon by Parisian street artist JR. During major renovation work on the monument, continuing over 5 separate phases through to 2022, JR has created a giant mosaic of 4,160 portraits on the tarps covering the dome, inside the dome, and installed inside on the floor of the monument. Inspired by his project Inside Out – “the people’s art project” – the portraits were submitted by people around the world, or were taken in his mobile photo booth that visited different monuments throughout France last March. The project will remain on the exterior throughout the renovation on the upper part of the Panthéon until 2015, while the installation inside remains until La Nuit Blanche on 5 Oct.
