PHOTO: Tokyo-E at Le Bal
This exhibition presents, for the first time in Europe, the work of three major Japanese photographers: Keizo Kitajima, Yukichi Watabe and Yutaka Takanashi. These photographers are looking for the uncertain formula of a culturally mixed Japanese identity, under American influence, and drastically altered by modernity’s new forms. In three distinct ways, their photography challenges a Japan that can’t avoid being thrust into the world’s disorder. Also note, Le Bal is participating for the first time in the Galeries Lafayette ‘Vitrines sur l’art’, and has reconstituted the gallery CAMP, the first independent photography gallery set up in Tokyo in 1979 by Keizo Kitajima, with Seiji Kurata and Daido Moriyama.
Until 21 Aug. Wed-Fri noon-8pm (10pm Thu), Sat 11am-8pm, Sun, 11am-7pm.
