SHILPA GUPTA
One of India’s most talented and internationally recognised artists presents her first solo show in Paris. Mumbai-based conceptual artist Gupta explores themes of security, identity, and political turbulence via sculptural and video installations. Despite the gravity of the subject matter Gupta’s works manage to maintain a playfulness as they are largely intended to engage viewers directly. The centerpiece of this show is a small monolith composed entirely of individual bars of soap stamped with the word ‘THREAT’ which viewers are invited to take home, the idea being that in using the soap they are neutralising or erasing this ‘threat’.
