THOMAS HIRSCHHORN AT PALAIS DE TOKYO
With “Eternal Flame,” the Paris artist creates a flexible, accessible and free participative work, bringing an authentic public space, a modern day agora, to the Palais de Tokyo. Hirschhorn considers “Eternal Flame” as his own temporary studio, like a welcome center for intellectuals who are free to consider their intervention or their mere presence outside of any obligation towards the institution to engage in “cultural moderation.” The chaotic space, filled with car tyres, includes couches and other furniture covered with Hirschhorn’s signature brown tape, a bar, computers and TVs for public use, and a small library. Turn up and participate or just listen to the daily program of public presentations from writers, poets, and philosophers who share their work, keeping the flame of art and ideas burning. Art as experience.
